Doctoral College

Digital transformation towards a sustainable society

The doctoral college "Digital Transformation towards a Sustainable Society" is a cooperative institution of Clausthal University of Technology and Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences for all interested scientists and performs interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary tasks in research and teaching, in particular for the promotion of young scientists. The common subject-related goal of the doctoral college is

  • the development of innovative digital solutions for a sustainable society
  • to promote the digital transformation towards a sustainable society by combining digitalization technologies with application areas
  • promoting a transdisciplinary view of the impact on the environment and society.

The graduate program at DIGIT is the natural extension of our joint Bachelor's and future Master's programs in Digital Technologies. Here, doctoral candidates benefit from supervision by faculty from both partner universities, forming thesis advisory committees that combine expertise across disciplines and institutions. Our structured doctoral framework includes advanced methodological training, practical experience in our digitisation laboratories, and professional skill development aligned with real-world demands.

A cooperation agreement between TU Clausthal and Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences has been established, outlining joint efforts in research and teaching. This cooperation is the basis for the successful application for "Digitalization Professorships" and includes the consecutive study program DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES as well as an organizational cooperation in the research center "Center for Digital Technologies".
The doctoral college is intended to:

  • offer professors involved in DIGIT the opportunity to supervise interdisciplinary doctorates,
  • offer Ostfalia academic staff involved in interdisciplinary digitalization projects that are anchored at DIGIT the opportunity to pursue a doctorate,
  • promote the interdisciplinary research of graduate school participants through specific events in the curriculum
  • optimize the supervision of interdisciplinary dissertations through long-term interdisciplinary cooperation between professors within the framework of the doctoral college, and offer a framework for joint research proposals.
